What does not

Keystrokes are broken in a lot of dialogs: The arrow keys or delete key may not work, so you have to use the mouse sometimes to manage text. Curiously, the opposite is true of pop-up help dialogs: You can't interact with them using the mouse at all, you have to use the keyboard.

What was not tested
e-filing, printing.

Latest TurboTax Install
by Mike White on Friday March 24th 2006, 16:43
After having deleted ~/.wine several times. I think that I have a wine setup that is ready to install TurboTax. I thought that I had a working IE but found out that it did not run. I posted a comment on what I did to get it working. In short I started from scratch and used winetools (I did not run winecfg) but I downloaded ie60sp1.exe and install it using wine (I did not use the winetools). I am now trying to run TurbTax install. I get the install shield popup and see it trying (it gets to the last bar then gives me:

Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040706
Description: Object reference not set

Setup will not terminate.

Any ideas on what this is and how to get TurboTax installed. I do not have any other software installed (except for the base system as specified in winetools). Do I need the windows system software, TT core fonts? I am installing by doing a wine setup from the CDROM. Can one install TurboTax from winetools?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am a little lost in how to trouble shoot.

Ignore 1st debian testing (etch) entry
by Jerry Quinn on Wednesday March 22nd 2006, 23:27
I had an old wine dir that wasn't in sync with 0.9.9. Cleaning that
and installing appears to have worked with no manual configuration.

I do have msttcorefonts installed, but I don't know if that was needed.

TurboTax 2005 on Wine 0.9.10 on Fedora Core 4
by Mike White on Saturday March 18th 2006, 13:18
Anyone had any luck with installing and running Turbotax on Fedora Core 4 with the latest Wine (0.9.10)? I was able to run winetools and load the base setup (Ariel font, DCOM98, MFC 4.x and IE6 SP1; I could not load IE6 untile the new release of wine 0.9.10; which is great; thanks wine developers). I have followed Ian's notes with no luck. In addition I tried the directions from Frank's Corner for an install shield program; still no luck). I get the install shield wizard pop up and I see that it tries to install; It gets to the last bar of the installshield wizard process then gives me the below error).

I am new to wine and getting it configured and running. Any suggstions or ideas? If I had to guess, I would say a library but have not clue.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Regards,
Mike

Got it working
by Ian Turner on Sunday February 12th 2006, 18:37
It didn't work out-of-the-box for me, but I got it working. All I did was to set things up with WineTools first. I chose:
-- Base Setup/Create a Fake Windows drive
-- Base Setup/Truetype Font Arial
-- Base Setup/DCOM98
-- Base Setup/MFC 4.x
-- Base Setup/IE 6
-- Windows System Software/VB6 Runtime (maybe not required)
-- Windows System Software/MDAC 2.8 & Jet 4.0
-- Windows System Software/MSXML 4.0
-- Windows System Software/Windows Script 4.6 (maybe not required)
-- Windows System Software/Common Controls 5.0 (maybe not required)

Then I ran the installer, which ran with exactly 1 flaw (license agreement file not found). The program itself seems to work just fine.
