HOWTO

Cursor and Multiplayer Support

You need to use a special version of wine to get proper in-game cursors and network support.

You can acquire this by either patching and compiling wine yourself, or using a provided package.

Goto http://www.compholio.com/wine-kane/ to obtain these  (DEBS and RPMS).

Internet play

You have to make sure that your "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/users/profiles/yourhomefolder/Application Data/C&C 3/Profiles/your_gameaccount/Options.ini" 'GameSpyIPAddress' fieldagrees with your online ip (for example GameSpyIPAddress = 84.171.46.121) and make sure that file is read-only.

Admin notes:  Do NOT submit test results for patched versions of Wine.  This is not a true representation of what Wine can achieve.

Do NOT submit test results for PlayOnLinux or anything else that is not Wine.

Do NOT submit test results where Multiplayer has not been tested.  Full tests are need to correctly rate an application.

Tests that do not comply will be deleted without warning.

Troubleshooting

Installation

The installer says installation was aborted, even before starting to install files
If you are installing from a CD/DVD, try copying the game disc to your home directory and run it from there.

I chose custom installation and it tells me to select a language pack, even though I have
Use the standard installation mode.

Starting the game

It hangs at the splash screen
Try running winecfg and disable all audio drivers.  Of course that is not an acceptable solution, but it will help us to determine where the problem lies.

In-game issues

Some effect settings result in corruption or improperly displayed rendering
Try setting the VFX or Shader quality to a lower setting.  Your graphics driver and/or wine may have bugs which result in visual defects at present.

The cursor animation does not play
Apply the relevant patches to wine or use a version with the functionality as described in the howto.

Can't even install in Ubuntu 9.10
by Sam on Sunday February 21st 2010, 7:02
I've trawled the posts and other forums and can't seem to understand why I can't run this game on my system. I have wine 1.1.39 for ubuntu and am trying to install Command and Conquer 3. The splash screen comes up and then it just doesn't go any further and stops. The terminal output includes things about NVIDIA and openGL and then a whole lot of d3d9 in it... (it's quite long so I won't post it here)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok I'm vary new to mac and installed Darwin version 1.1.21 and then realized that i needed a new version so i downloaded 1.1.9 I just dragged it to the apps folder and clicked "replace" I'm not sure if that is all it talks to update or if you have to uninstall the old one first. then i put in my T3 disk and double clicked and i got a list of files some of which had the Darwin logo as there icon one was called "AUTORUN.EXE" the other "SETUP.EXE" when i double click ether of them they appear in the process window and a little text box appears saying "version 1" when i close the text box they disappear from the process window

Crashes if looses focus
by Stefan on Wednesday August 26th 2009, 15:55
I've got it running on ubuntu 9.04 amd64, wine 1.18.
I could solve hanging splash screen by setting up a virtual desktop (800x600) but was able to increase resolution later in the game and to remove the virtual desktop afterwards.
Sound works good (at least for a while) using Esound.
I didn't have time for in depth testing but will post my results.

One issue remains: If the game looses focus (ie: the mouse moves outside the window and clicks) the game will crash.

Has anybody suffered from this so far?

1.1.26 hang 1.1.25 works perfectly
by Matthew Southgate on Friday July 24th 2009, 23:45
In WINE version 1.1.26 it appears to hang during the start up.

The splash screen appears and stays there, but the application doesn't start. In Wine 1.1.25 It works perfectly, and I managed to get Kane's Wrath working without a No DVD crack.

So I reverted to 1.1.25, anybody else get this error?

Not all mouse cursors show
by Edward on Friday July 3rd 2009, 11:56
I used playonlinux to install cnc3, which has done is flawlessly. Network and mouse patches have been applied. I can see a mouse cursor in game, however when i select a unit, the mouse cursor is gone. When I unselect a unit, the mouse cursor is visible again. Is this normally what happens with the cursor fix?

Random Crashes
by Edward on Sunday June 28th 2009, 11:01
Game works perfect under the new wine versin 1.1.23!
Videos, network, mouse, sound all work. The only problem is I get random crashes. Could be 5 minutes, could be an hour.
