So yeah, I also get the "script has stopped working" errors with the launcher, which are annoying but harmless. I don't ever get any mention of unsupported video card.
I haven't tried it with Windows and wine on the same box to compare fps. My desktop machine here is moderately burly, i7 920 Quad, and I'm getting 50-75 fps with wine, at 1920x1200. I'll boot over to Windows later this evening and see. Champs is crazy CPU intensive, it was actually what drove me to update to this mobo/CPU a couple months ago.
With the keypress thing, I'd seen something a lot like that in City of Heroes, and snooping over there on that winehq page gave me the hint to turn off keyboard repeat in my Gnome keyboard control panel. Did that, and the problem cleared right up. Though it is sort of a pain to have to turn that on and off every time I want to play. Allegedly it's an Xorg server misfeature from some update in the past few months, and should be fixed at some point.
