I did no tests since my last reports because i was too busy. I am not sure, maybe i can test in the near future.
I could play the game with the original DVD and Patch 1.02. With a crack it will crash. I could play for some time without crashes but the performance is rather not enjoyable. I don't know how it is now.
About the gamepad emulation:
There is some stuff for windows to do that and in Venetica forums people write it works but I was not able to get it working with wine. Though I did not spend much time on it.
