I get the same thing happening with patched Wine 1.1.33.
I start to see the main screen (I don't get the intro movies), then the entire screen becomes distorted, even desktop when running in windowed mode.
I can't even look at what's going on in the terminal since I immediately lose the ability to click on anything or execute any keyboard commands. Eventually, the mouse stops moving and I'm forced to do a hard reboot.
