Sorry, I use Linux, but I thought my wineprefix recreation notes may be worth a mention.
I think dotnet (20?) is only needed for the DAupdater.exe and DLC. Up until recently, I never installed it. In fact, the last time I redid my wineprefix was to try and get rid of installations of dotnet20 and dotnet30. I did one at a time, but DAupdater.exe crashed after each. I don't know how to get DLC working.
When I recreate my wineprefix, I leave it at winxp, but it sounds like people have an easier time with the game when *installing* from cd/dvd with winver=win2000, because then it'll automatically install the VC dlls and you won't have to install vcrun2005. I didn't know this the first time I installed the game, but I eventually managed to get it working after a while.
