Game starts, but only runs a few seconds
by Marvin Arnold on Sunday December 20th 2009, 13:51
Thank you for all the information. I run wine 1.1.33 with the three patches. Bink video playback is choppy, but at least it works now. I already set the ini and the Direct3D registry settings as you described (but my video card, which IS a NVIDIA (9600M GT), has 256 MB RAM, so I set it to that). Strange enough I can't set "Antialiasing" in-game at all, the button is inoperable. Whether I choose gdi or opengl as renderer doesn't make any difference, afaics.
The opening video isn't the problem, it leds into the character creator, but when I want to play after creating a character, DAO crashes.
I'm able to resume an old saved game, but it crashes after a few seconds (either when I circle the camera or on its own), with still the same error messages.
Game runs with Crossover Games, but I've only got the demo and besides, there's the issue with heavy black flickering and crashes when you use more than lowest graphics settings, as well as the completely black videos.
I might try re-installing the unpatched 1.1.33 wine, but only as a last resort...
I'm still wondering if there is anyone who managed to run it under Snow Leopard...
