To get around the missing letters, change resoultions, accept and the change it back. It brings back so or most of the letter/text. Try it again to see if it gives a better result.

This may be a silly question, but can I ask what version the driver utility says when you run the 10.7 utility? I run the 10.7 I obtained from ATI, but the version number in the file itself says 8.7something.

Sorry, that does not work here.

I removed the ubuntu fglrx also.
I installed ati-driver-installer-10-7-x86.x86_64.run by creating and installing the debs with "./ati-driver-installer-10-7-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/lucid"

My system is running

Ubuntu 10.04
default kernel 2.6.32-24-generic
64bit
wine 1.2 release
fglrx 10-7 or 2:8.753 (depending on where you look (ati homepage or synaptic)
and my xorg.conf is now the one that was posted here as working.

I want to play StarCraft without rebooting Windows... Argh...

I've tried disabling compiz, running wine as vista or win7 - no result yet.

Results are as described here a lot:

left about 15% of the screen is allright. the rest is scrambled. Interestingly the loading screen is looking fine and changes right after a short flicker.

So close....
