+1 to this.. tested it out yesterday after reading your post. My CPU is AMD Phenon II X4 955 and if I set "sudo cpufreq-selector -g performance" my FPS goes from ~30 to ~50ish.. anyway, a pretty big difference. This should be filed as a bug.
