Please check your permissions. make sure you are the owner of the files, and have read access. Also, if executing from the cd-rom, please take into account the mount options, settings the currect user id.

I confirm this. I installed SC2 on wine version 1.3.12 and it worked. However, after upgrading wine, ever since version 1.3.14 or so, I started getting this error on install and the install never launches.
I had to reinstall freeBSD, and so I reinstalled star-craft under a higher version of wine, so I know its version specific.
