Same problem here on latest wine on debian squeeze, using the same nvidia driver (190.x), might be a reason.
Havnt played cs before on linux though, wanted to test it out after many years break.

I am getting the message. Games in Steam don't launch (Although on my current computer I have only tried a single game. On my laptop, which is currently broken, I have had the same problem with several games for quite a while now. There was a "lapse" when it started working for a while. It seemed to be connected with the fact that I had just installed gecko and some native fonts etc for wine, but after a one-time start up of a game it stopped working again.)
This computer is an AMD Athlon 64 3500+, nVidia GeForce 6600 GT
Kernel 2.6.31, wine 1.1.34-1, nvidia drivers 195.22-4
My laptop, which had the same problem, is an Intel Core 2 Duo P9500, nVidia GeForce 9800M GT
