RE: Notes outdated?

Hi,
I had absolutely no problem with the winetricks way of installing Steam, everything worked good, including the games I play.
I agree that using things like early releases of desktop environments can cause problems. Since I am on KDE, I am unaffected by these. Also, despite the resource hungriness of KDE, Kwin in my experience yields better gaming performance than Compiz or other compositors. (I think Phoronix made a benchmark that came to the same conclusion too)
As for the Wine version, I am constantly updating all the time, so I can't really tell from which version the overlays started to work, but the point is that I play Left 4 Dead 2 which simply needs the overlays for full functionality, so I just tried to enable them and they worked. Also, I did not notice any slowdowns after enabling the overlays. The keyboard can act a bit weird though, like not recognising "shift" in the in-game chat.
As for the GPU, I have an Nvidia 9500 and use the latest official drivers as those give the best performance with games. :)
