Ok, thanks to Macports, I easily downgraded my 1.3.37 to 1.3.36 and it instantly worked. I doubt that it's a coincidence, because I had normally had a login success once per 3 or 5 login attempts before, and then after the upgrades, I had 0 in about 10-20.

Just checked the release notes for 1.3.37. Looks like they did a lot of changes regarding Direct3d. It may be causing conflicts when trying to render. Guess I'll be staying with .36 for awhile.
