Demo runs under Ubuntu 10.04, wine version 1.3.3. It's not pretty, and it crashes unless you switch into strategic view right after starting a game, but it works. Played for roughly 50 turns

With this same set of hacks it doesn't work for me -- it crashes at startup (after I select DirectX 9)
My system is gentoo amd64, running a core 2 quad, running a 2.6.35-gentoo-r5 kernel. I've tried with both 256.44 and 256.53 drivers.
