Next time you need to do something away from the computer (or maybe just browse youtube) run wine fm.exe and go do something else.
I have no idea what causes it, I don't know how to fix it and you might have another problem, but for me the game seems to pause after that cant change backbuffer count message.
On my home pc, it takes about 20mins but the game loads, and once loaded, it runs perfectly. On my laptop its more like 8mins so the better your computer the longer it takes? Could indicate a timeout error or it's slowly filling ram up or something.
Give that a go, if it doesn't work after 30mins then we'll look elsewhere for the problem
