Sorry for not noticing your response earlier. Either somehow I didn't get an e-mail notification or I just didn't notice the e-mail.
It's funny you mention that. I was _just_ thinking about giving Dan Kegal a buzz because mdac doesn't work in WineTricks. So I came here to see the fix I found, and there you are!
You have to set your Windows version lower because mdac is intended as a patch for old versions of Windows to give them this ability that Window XP and the like already have.
Did you see my earlier comment "Additions/update"? It confronts your very issue:
"To install mdac 2.8, you must open winecfg ($WINEPREFIX=[path to prefix] wine winecfg), and under the Applications tab change the Windows version to a lower version - Win98 works.
To install Livezilla, you have to bump the version back up - XP works." - me.
You should probably install mdac before installing Livezilla. You bump it down to Win98 mode, install mdac while in Win98 mode, then after mdac is installed, bump it back up to WinXP mode, then install Livezilla. Following the main instructions too, of course.

Upgrade your WineTricks. I just did a test, and the newest WineTricks can install mdac2.8 just fine. It must automatically lower and raise the Windows version for you. You can download the WineTricks script by doing this: "wget winetricks.org/winetricks" in terminal (should be an "h-t-t-p-://" (without the dashes) in front of "winetricks.org", but it gets cut off when I post it), or just by going to winetricks.org/winetricks in FireFox, copying and pasting the whole thing into gEdit, saving it as winetricks.sh, right-clicking that file, going to the Permissions tab, and checking off "Allow executing file as program". Then I'd copy that into /usr/bin by pressing Alt+F2, entering "gksudo nautilus", and moving that file over.
