1.2.X seems to be the best option for trying to get Diablo 3 work, however I do not have the beta key so I wasn't able to test the gameplay itself. Installing vcrun2008 and winhttp is highly recommended.
Also I had to edit ~/Diablo III/D3Prefs.txt to disable fullscreen mode as it caused Xorg to freeze on my Radeon 5870. In window mode, the game starts and game menu appears. Options menu is quite bugged and does not offer any resolution change settings, other options work as well (except I got no sound). Connection to Battle.net probably works as well as the game correctly validated I have no beta license available. Freezes on game exit.

Now testing on another machine with same system and wine version, but a nVidia card and the game is rockstable although still no sound. I'd change my rating to silver if it would be possible.
