Wine's development versions are relatively stable and they eventually become the next stable version. So, if there's a problem with the development version then we generally want to get it fixed as soon as possible. Also, if it works in 1.2.2 and something is broken in 1.3.28 then it's generally a good idea to run a "regression test" and find out where things broke. That might be something you're not interested in doing (it's time consuming and involves compiling the source code over and over), but it definitely helps in tracking down issues.
