I think This problem affects this machines or otherwise 1.0.0 version.
I play the game since wine 1.0.0 and I see that the game runs faster than windows. The game runs smoothly both on GNOME and KDE 4.1 without compiz (on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04). I play on Laptop, with 2Gb ram and geforce 8400M video. No problem, I play with CD (I use a Crack that accept all CDs), I've written it to an ISO imagefile and I mounted it with "sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 /media/cdrom1/ /path/to/image.iso")
Now I play all missions (i've finished tha game) with 1.1.3 but, I repeat, since 1.0.0 I haven't any problems related on textures, errors, or something like this.
Try to compile 1.1.3 and repeat this test. I will help you if is needed.
