RE: Black Screen

Hi,
I am also currently experiencing this problem, although I'm using the proprietary ATI driver (fglrx). I've yet to try with DRI disabled, but will change it and post back shortly.

I'm new to Linux having just recently installed Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 with Kernel 2.6.28-15-generic and GNOME 2.26.1.
I am, unfortunately, addicted to SketchUp which I discovered does not run on my Acer Aspire 5600. I've been muddling through and trying to learn the language and learn something useful about what the problem is and so far I believe it indeed does have something to do with the Intel driver. My card was identified as a:
I searched my drivers and it appears that it is installed. I also checked the Xorg.0.log and it shows the driver loading up. The driver is causing a series of warnings at:

My research in the various boards indicate this is an on-going problem that the teams are working on that may be related to DRI (Direct Rendering Infrastructure) which I believe is Linux's version of OpenGL, and KMS (Kernel-based Mode Setting) which appears to be a fairly young implementation of technology shifting some of the video-adapter control to the Linux kernel. Nothing I have seen appears to indicate a time-frame for resolution.
