Don't bug AMD about their poor drivers please, they know they suck, and they released specs of their hardware to fix this problem, so the open source community can build something better (which is what they're doing right now). AMD is a lot more open source friendly than nvidia is, and as soon as the open source AMD driver supports 3D as well as nvidia does, it's no more nvidia for me. I've had it with their crappy binary blobs...
