RE: Running WoW gives display error

Yes, well, I found out quickly that 64 linux is more responsive than 32 bits. Also, it is less sensitive to the number of processes running.
The only disadvantage I used to have was not to be able to play all Flash videos (I didn't care at the time).
By now, that point is moot as well: I can play flash both with a propriety (wrong word I know, I keep forgetting the real word) or a free plugin. I find 64 bits on a 64 bits machine preferrable to anything 32 bits can offer.

So yes, I will stick to 64 bits linux.

CUrrently, as a sidetrack (until I get my new machine), I am installing WoW from a VM (Virtual Box), but during the install I still get errors.

However, I *am* interested in the process of schrooting to a 32-bits environment. I will check the net for a description of how to do it.
If I find it, see if I can get it running. At least it improves my options.

Well, the VM option is off, as I get the exact same error as with Wine!
I suspect, this is not a 64/32 bit driver problem as the VM is completely 32 bit, and the interface between VM and Linux insulates the program from the 64 bit drivers.

So, looking at the error message:

"Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting program."

it must be that it really can not find the right display:

Also, when installing I got a warning to change to colormap from 16 bits to 32 bits. I wonder whether this might be the cause of the problem.....
I haven't been able to find out where I can correct this though.

Hi,

I folded. I am running a 32 bit system now. When the updates from CD-distribution to current state are finished I will be installing and using WoW. Hopefully, without trouble.
