I had issues with it on Vista as well (I completely hosed my Linux install recently, and haven't got WoW installed on the new one yet). Most of the problems related to installing the patch: it kept hanging during the download. It may be that you just ended up with an incomplete or corrupted patch file.
The launcher has been slightly flakey since, and I've been randomly DCed a few times, which hasn't been a problem before.
