Thanks for the reply man,

I don't think it's a bad install of the drivers: another person with Arch and same drivers can run in opengl (having problems, but no crash). I've also reinstalled pretty much everything to do with mesa/xorg/intel/etc... I'm short of doing a clean wipe of the laptop :P

It is possible it could be the intel drivers having troubles with OpenGL, but because of the above other case, the crashing on my part seems odd.

I haven't yet tested my memory, and should, but not sure if the memory or video card are going bad, as it's very playable when in Direct3D mode.

I'm wondering if it's how opengl and d3d handle video memory, as I think the intel cards use system memory as video memory (could be wrong, but thought this was the case)
