New update: Tried Ubuntu Lucid 32 bit, tried setting "processAffinityMask" to "3" in an attempt to force it to use 2 cores, tried disabling vsync wherever I could find it, tried setting CPU to "performance" mode, tried setting GPU to "performance" mode.
None of these helped :(
Is there anything I can do to help debug this problem? Running Windows is not an option (certainly not after what it did with my disk), searching more on the net it seems like I'm not the only one who've had this problem. Here for example is a thread where someone had the exact same problem, they figured it out, but unfortunately they didn't feel like sharing with the world what they did to fix the problem (cheers, appreciated!): www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=643304
