The problem can probably be resolved by following the following steps :-

Your wine version is very VERY outdated.

Remove wine from your system completely. Uninstall it and then go into your Home folder and press Ctrl + H to show hidden files. Delete .wine and .winetrickscache.

The download the latest stable version of wine by following the instructions listed in the link below :-

www.winehq.org/download/deb

You want to get wine 1.2 - follow the instructions but dont do the optional bit at the end to get up to 1.3 beta. Just follow the instructiuon for wine 1.2 and dont bother with the wine 1.3 package bit.

Then follow the instructions listed in the HOWTO on the WoW 3.3.5 page to install - modifiying your methos of course as it is WoW 4.0.0.
