I've confirmed that when using WoW in DirectX9 mode this crash doesn't happen... so it is perhaps a reaction of the games OpenGL engine to something in MESA's OpenGL which causes the crash.
Unfortunately Running with DirectX in this hardware configuration gives some serious graphics artefacts and an unplayable 5-10fps
I will test further in the new year with MESA 8.0 once that is released.

I had some lockup issues with an intel core i3. Some seconds after entering the gameworld, wow hang up or crashed. Some research later i manually installed libtxc_dxtn.so (S3 texture compression) and voila, wow is now running.
I had to use the 32bit version of the lib, although i'm running Xubuntu x64... this is because wine is running in 32bit i think.
