RE: Intel HD3000 + OSS Drivers.

My solution was to install the "Xorg Edgers" PPA, which is a somewhat risky thing to do since it contains a lot of bleeding edge graphics components...

The PPA is here:-

launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Even after installing the PPA and updating all my X and graphics components, I still had to install some other components from that PPA.

1. 3.2 kernel with new DRI etc.
2. The S3TC library (libtxc-dxtn0)
3. Because my machine is 64 bit, the 32 bit S3TC library had to be manually downloaded and installed from here - ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/libt/libtxc-dxtn/

This is not for the faint of heart, because you will be running very new, potentially beta versions of Xorg, and the related graphics stack, as well as Mesa etc. If you install this PPA while you have proprietary graphics drivers installed you might well end up with a system which cannot boot into a graphical environment!

BUT, it does work.

If you are not using Ubuntu, or a related distribution, I can't help so much, other than to say that you probably want the 3.2 kernel... you will need Mesa 8.0-devel or later, compiled with S3TC enabled, and you will need the "libtxc-dxtn" S3TC library installed.

James.
