RE: Slower Framerate compared to Windows

the only real difference i see with your set up compared to mine is the amount of RAM, i am running with 2GBsystem and 1GB video card, i cant see that making much of a difference, only if the OS and other apps were taking up enough memory that it impacted FFXI versus running in Windows.

what i may suggest is that you go through the posted coments and see some of the tricks that we have found. I will work to communicate with the other maintainers and/or edit the how to myself, while preserving the original in order to reflect some of the improvements that we have found. probably by adding info after the "problems as of 1.1.12" section

i would suggest that you make sure you have the latest hardware drivers, have "offscreenrenderingmode"" set to "fbo", try installing WINEtricks with directx and such. make sure you are set to windows vista mode in winecfg, try to run the program not from the command line. other than that you might try using a liveCD of a different distribution. i am very behind on setting up other distros to test on my computer because i am lazy, so i only have test data for Kubuntu and Mandrake (obsolete).

may i ask what program you are using to get your frame rates? i may install it and check on my computer.

as for the completely lag free set up i was able to test on a customer's computer, it was a Phenom x4 9600 2.31 GHz, 4GB RAM, Geforce 9800 1GB video, WINE 1.1.20, Kubuntu 9.04 32 bit. running on an ASUS crosshair II motherboard.

i very much hope that something has been overlooked that can be easily fixed, if not i will try (read attempt but probably wont get around to it) to install fedora on my system to test it.
good luck

Are you using exactly the same configuration as on Windows?. In FFXIconfig see if you have (for example) enabled window mode or bump mapping etc, some options have a big impact on performane. Also, have you disabled Shadows on Linux?if not try it, thats the only thing that keept me from getting acceptable frame rates.
