RE: going back to 1.1.22
by Alan Gindlesperger on Tuesday June 9th 2009, 7:41
You're not the only one. I wish I could figure out what I did earlier this year to get it running so smoothly. I do remember that it was Wine 1.1.18 that was the first version of Wine that I used where I tried the "fbo" tweak and I was amazed at how well it performed on my system.

When I upgraded to 1.1.19 there seemed to be a regression in that when I exited FFXI, I would just get a black screen instead of having control passed back to the PlayOnline Viewer.

As I mentioned in my more recent post, after reforming my HD, I now dual boot Vista and Linux. I would love to go Linux full time again, however, every time I try to install FFXI under Linux now, I get errors from InstallShield. Even if I download the .deb for Wine 1.1.18 which worked in the past, it won't work now. Perhaps its one of those things that you just have to do more then once, and if the magic is right, it will work :)

I don't know what the problem is. I have a few tricks I want to try when I have the time. I would love to go full time Linux again.
