RE: Idea about why FFXI works on later versions of Wine for some and not others
by Alan Gindlesperger on Saturday July 4th 2009, 12:11
I was reading through your posts, and I don't know why you are having the FPS issues with FFXI. I can see that you even use the drivers from nVidia, which is usually the first thing people suggest trying. I've also found that using "fbo" for OffscreenRenderingMode is your best bet with FFXI.

I don't know if this would be a possible issue, but I know that you use Fedora. I know that many people use Ubuntu. In theory this should not matter, but what if it there is something different? For example, like 99% of software written for Linux, Wine relies on dependencies. Many of these are already installed on many Linux systems by default, and the ones that aren't should be included in that distro's repository. What if Fedora installs with a different version of a library (or libraries) then the one (or ones) installed with Ubuntu? Could this be an issue? I admit, it's probably unlikely, but, hey, it's an idea.
