RE: POL either black or 'barcode' text

I managed to add my member info into POL w/o being able to read the barcode-garbbled text, but it's still annoying not being able to read anyhting. The big problem is starting FFXI; it starts up but slows down a lot to the point of freezing up at the "agree" screen. Help!

First off, Final Fantasy XI must be installed and run with Wine in VISTA mode! XP mode will cause problems. If your installation and attempted runtime is not / has not been in VISTA mode please first try installation and runtime this way. If this fails to work for you, please post your system hardware/software specs so that I may be able to further help you! Otherwise I can only guess as to what may be your problem.
Also, please include your Monitor type and specs when giving your system specs as there are monitors with funky screen resolutions that seem to cause problems with Final Fantasy XI.
There appears to be issues with ATI cards but this is not limited to *Nix systems as this also appears to be prevalent on Windows for many ATI cards( mainly older ones ). SquareEnix and NVIDIA partnered up at the initial release of Final Fantasy XI and no doubt the main reason ATI cards have given so many issues.
The following link is for supported hardware on Windows as per May 2008 and the recommended graphics card is of the NVIDIA GeForce variety.
CPU types also appear to be problematic for both *Nix and Windows.
Hopefully setting Wine to VISTA mode is all you need. I have tried this with multiple NVIDIA cards and system hardware and VISTA mode is a definite must! At least with the DVD Vana'Diel Collection 2008 installation media.
