Switching to Vista does not improve anything. Neither does removing the dxdiagn from the library tab. As for the graphics controller, perhaps you're right, I wouldn't know. I naturally assumed a graphics card from the previous year would be sufficient to run a 2004 game, guess not. I'm not going to buy a new card just for this though.
On another note, my confidence in wine's rating system and general utility has dropped again. I've tried FFXI on wine on 3 different machines so far and never got it to work. I understand how they are rated, but I don't think "gold" is an accurate assessment of the likelihood of a random PC running a random Linux distro can get this working properly.
It'd also be nice if there were one single install instruction set on this page rather than 2 (one of which is obsolete for wine, the other assumes you have Vanadiel Collection 2008). Sigh...
