Your welcome.
The black border at the bottom of the screen is an odd one. Not sure how to fix this one yet. Wine or driver bug but cant say which.

Performance. I've experimented a bit with this but so far only succeeded in slowing things down.
Not sure if this is going to help but...
Possible things.
Use the CPU Frequency monitor to set the CPU to performance mode. On all real and HT cores if you have them. This is so it wont slow down if its not being used as much.

Reduce screen resolution to minimum. Not tried 256x256 on background resolution yet but should help.

Reduce settings in game. View distance, effects, etc..

The registry entry in wine might help, only slowed thing down for me. wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys

Play full screen. This helped UT99, not tried of FFXI yet.

Using the xorg-edgers ppa for updated drivers. Not sure if it does any good. There's suppose to be an update to the Intel drivers soon which helps performance in some areas, some of which maybe ppa already. The ppa can cause problems however so use with care.

More extreme things
Using Lubuntu or Xubuntu. There are more lighter weight Linux variants out there that might be quicker. Not tested.

100% CPU is normal for games. Nothing we can do about it unfortunately.
