RE: other distros? registration?
by Susan Cragin on Monday May 12th 2008, 8:48
Hi, Sheng-Chieh.
I would like to reply to two of your concerns.
The best way to register the program under Ubuntu is to manually register from the web site. This will produce a very long code that you have to enter manually.
However, once you have the code, keep it somewhere safe. With the code, you can easily re-install DNS every time you want to. You may want to, for instance, when there is a new version of WINE.
The only version of DNS that works very well now is DNS 9.0 Preferred. DNS 9.5 Standard has a glitch in the installation. You think it installs, but it doesn't, quite, and then it doesn't run.
Please check the bug report and this web site for updates.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking is the only really good speech recognition software available. Nothing else comes close. IBM's ViaVoice (also a Windows-only program) had something almost as good as DNS7, but development has been discontinued.
