If you don't want to revert to 1.1.12 then don't add that key. It causes graphics anomolies in .13 and .14 As for how you'd do it, just type regedit at a command prompt or into a 'run' dialog. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Wine -> etc. etc.
Once you're in the directory you want to be in you can right click in the whitespace to have options pop up for 'new key' 'new string' etc. (or some approximation). That's how you add stuff to the registry. You may want to back up ~/.wine/system.reg and ~/.wine/user.reg in case you blow something up. After making backups don't be afraid to fiddle around in regedit, you can't hurt anything too bad.
