Check out the link in the how-to above for the best description. Basically, you need to run "wine regedit" and under the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D" add the string "UseGLSL" and set its value to "disabled". The other registry keys listed in the how-to are useful to, but since you've got an ATI card, DO NOT set OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo. The other ones are fine.
