RE: no sound

You should try to launch the game with Windows Xp or Windows 7 compatibility (through winecfg) and check the audio panel works fine (in winecfg too).
Also, be sure to not mute the sound and music through the in-game options.
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 too, and sometimes the sound ingame is cut (whenever I launch an application that uses the sound system): I solve this problem with an alt+tab through the windows.
