You could try Wine 1.5.8 and you should check your grahics driver version directly in your control panel or whatever you have. Getting the software from a repository doesn't ensure that it is up to date.
You can also try to delete your Gw.dat to get a new one. In this case you should use the -image parameter to get the complete Gw.dat. For example the command looks this on my system: WINEDEBUG=-all "$HOME"'/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/GUILD WARS/Gw.exe' -image
