same problem here with Gentoo and wine 0.9.55 and 0.9.56... game runs very well, but only the first time I start it. I have to delete ".../My Games/Age of Empires 3/Users/NewProfile.xml" and then I can start a second time, but then all my settings are gone.
Perhaps some problem with xml parsing with wine?
I tried to upgrade msxml to 4.0SP2, but same error...
