Ok...just after posting this, I found the solution.

For all who have the sound problem,just install the following file which is in your installation folder:

.wine/dosdevices/c:/Programme/Sierra/FEAR/WMFADist.exe

Noe it works great: Platinum!

Have you changed anything under the 'Audio' tab in winecfg? Make sure only one driver is selected, possibly changing acceleration to 'emulation'. Click 'Test Audio' to see if Wine can access your hardware properly.

Also check settings in-game to see if they're set too high/low.

Last thought: where is the sound processor? on a card or on the motherboard? Is your distro using it effectively?

e.g.: I'm using a ASUS M2R32-MVP motherboard which is an AMD/ATI chipset; onboard Realtek 7.1-channel sound processor. Can use Wine's OSS/Alsa drivers no problem.
