I have exactly the same problem. I think Securom is causing it and something could be wrong with the latest wine version, causing the above mentioned fix not to work.
I'm using the AMD64 version of Ubuntu & wine. Could that be it? I've filed a bug in bugzilla. We'll see what they say.

i hear ya. i just got rid of oblivion. i gave up games. i would recomend trying to copy the oblivoon folders from windows and all aplication data. then i would copy the my games folder. paste them into the apropriate locations and it might work fine. if not then try using a downloaded or burned copy of oblivion, i had the deluxe editon i installed on windows and moved over for testing on linux.
any way just a few weeks ago i switched from ableton to nuendo. i got plenty of new vst's and effects to replace what ableton did. and i now an able to get rid of windows for ever :) now only if i can get proper drivers for my recording interface

I had a similar problem. For me, the solution was to mount an ISO of obliv on my filesystem. Then under winecfg, I set that as the D: drive. Then I launched the wine explorer, and ran the d:\ setup executable (so it would think it was on a cdrom drive). Maybe this will help you as well.
