Ok, here's how I got it running,
Renamed my .wine folder and created a new one with winecfg.
Install directx9 via winetricks
Install wmp10 via winetricks and when it asks if you want codecs, click yes
Go here howto.landure.fr/gnu-linux/install-directx-9-0c-on-linux-using-wine and read the section on Active movie installation.
Essentially, use their script to get dciman32.dll and place in c/windows/system32
Use their script to get amovie.exe and install it with wine, when it asks to take control of codecs click yes
Do /usr/bin/regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\amstream.dll" to register the amstream.dll
Now install x2-threat, update it to v1.4 and install the nocopy protection removal.
Alternatively, and this worked for me, if you have it installed on windows in a dual boot system, just copy the whole game folder over. (Incidentally I did this with x3-reunion from my windows install and it also appears to work fine.)
