gersen - You're a marvel! Everything now works perfectly! That's the good news! The bad news is that I can't find my savegame from my old windows days - oh well, I'll have to take over the galaxy from scratch. :-p

Note: To those who come afterwards to read this... The only things I would change about gersen's explanation are these. When you install X2 it will ask if you want to install media format 9 files or something similar - don't! Also, amovie.exe didn't ask me if about "taking control of codecs". Other than this, everything worked fantastic. Oh - I don't know if other people had this problem but on the install I had issues switching from disk 2 back to disk 1 right at the end. I got around this by ripping the disks to .iso and then mounting the two iso images.
