Sadly not. I'm investigating and trying various things (regenerating my xorg.conf from the nVidia control panel, forcing the DirectDraw refresh rate to 60 in HKCU/Software/Microsoft/DirectDraw, launching the game in windowed mode, with or without virtual desktop) but so far nothing has worked. The game still hangs with the same error message.
In case that may help, what distro are you running, and what hardware (graphics card and screen) are you using?
