I'm using Wine 1.2.2 now.
I should have added earlier that I can get a Garmin gps device recognised if I keep Wine config open after I've changed the drive to Floppy and Apply. If Wine Config is closed, a link is made in dosdevices but then Garmin software fails to make a connection. It will default to Autodetect. Overall I think this is a small but important step forward but I'm at the limit of my knowledge here.
