I've found that the amount of lag varies drasticly depending on where you are, what you are doing, and how many people are there. And from what I've heard its the same on windows too.

Yes I have seen this problem in both data sets I have submitted. Although its not minutes for me but typically at least an hour and rather hours. Regardless it does seem to slow down over time and audio starts to cut in and out. Id be interested to know if this occurs in windows native.

I have the same problem on both OpenSuse11.0 and Ubuntu 8.04 with all Wine versions up to 1.1.13.
But not always!

Under Ubuntu I installed a Temp-sensor tracking the GPU (nVIDIA) Temperature. Right after launching the Game GPU-Temp goes up to 73-74°C and the game runs fast and smooth. After an hour of gameplay the GPU-Temperature drops below 70°C AND the Framerate drops as well to almost unplayable. IMHO this means that LastChaos/Wine doesn't call that much 3D-Power from the GPU as before.
This happens in most cases, but slightly depends on the current ingame map (Dratan and Dungeons are worst, Egeha sometimes better).

In some cases I can avoid this frameratedrop by switching the game's resolution, or from window to fullscreen. By logging out and in again (without leaving the game!) this problem ALWAYS disappers, which means, again one hour of smooth gameplay.

Luckily one day my Opera-Browser crashed, and left my machine with 100% CPU-Load (a process in the background has not been terminated by Opera. I think it was nspluginwrapper or so). But now, with my system running at 100% CPU-Load and the CPU heating up to 62°C the game ran more than 6 hours absolutely smooth and fast! Seems like the game is unable to call the needed CPU-power by itself. Unfortunately this doesn't work by running CPU-burners just as burnK7.

Everyone with this problem, please add your system specifications to bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17299 .

You could check if the problem is present on your system by running "WINEDEBUG=+fps wine LC.exe". In the game, simply run to a location where no real things happen and wait. If the fps which are shown in the terminal decrease over the time (you should see it in less then 15 min but you should run ~1 hr to be sure) your system has this bug. If the bug is not present on your system, please also add a note and your system specs.
