I'm getting the same thing with nvidia drivers. From the looks of it, it feels like a missing codec; I'm compiling a few new libs now to see if that helps.
For the record, Source games work fine in my 64-bit install, but in my 32-bit chroot (which is much leaner and doesn't have any media stuff compiled (yet)), I get this error. I'll check back once I've compiled some more media codecs and let you know if that helps.
