No, WINE 0.9.61 works fine with TF2. How do I know? Because I'm using WINE 0.9.61 with TF2! It works fine for me. There's something else with your system you need to check. Other than that, not much more we can help you.

I have tried to use the same reg settings as I have in previous installations, but no luck. Seems that something has happened in wine that TF2 does not work anymore. Last version I used which ran TF2 the best was 0.9.49. After that it all went downhill... Just have to wait and see now!
