RC5 install brought a wave of registry in use errors I couldn't weather. wineboots, .blobs, nothing working.
Completely removed Steam, then wine, and the .wine directory
Reinstalled it all. Forgot to get the fonts. Got the tahoma fonts but to no avail I have no bg image at the TF2 main menu and can't see servers in the server list.
